Why language learners should join a conversation club

At a certain point, you might come to realize that your English studies are progressing pretty well, but that you don’t actually have anybody to practice them with. How are you supposed to remember the grammar rules and vocabulary that you study if you don’t have someone to actually try them out with?

If you’re in a non-English speaking country, this problem becomes even bigger. How are you supposed to become a native-level speaker if you don’t have any natives to practice with? It’s a problem that 99% of English learners face at some point in their journey, and one that you might be dealing with right now.

Don’t live in one of these countries? You might struggle to find an English speaking partner.

Whether you’re a beginner with basic comprehension skills, or an advanced learner with confidence issues, joining a conversation club might be the fastest way of improving your English skills.

Have you ever heard of language immersion? It’s the idea of fully immersing yourself in your new language so that you can improve as fast as possible, while also picking up on the mannerisms and accents of the people you are learning with (such as natives).

The same idea applies when you join a conversation club, since you’ll be immersed in English for the entire class, and when studying the material they provide.

If language immersion interests you, but you don’t have the opportunity to travel yet, a  conversation club might be exactly what you’re looking for! So, read on if you’re interested in taking your English to the next level!

What is a conversation club?

One of our Saturday conversation clubs

A conversation club is a study group filled with language learners who practice their new language together. Most groups (including ours) are limited to a pretty small number of students, so that everyone who joins can get a chance to speak and learn.

Conversation clubs can focus on every language skill (including speaking, listening, reading, and writing), and can be structured or free-form. The main purpose of these clubs is to practice speaking so that you can build your confidence and reduce your accent.

By getting the chance to speak with others who are studying the same new language skills as you, you’ll find yourself being much less nervous than if you traveled to the U.S. tomorrow and tried speaking English for the first time with no other practice.

Who are conversation clubs good for?

I’d recommend conversation clubs the most to someone who doesn’t have much opportunity to practice English in their own country or city. If you’re an ordinary person in Russia, or South America, or Asia, there might not be as much opportunity for you to use English as you might need to advance at a good speed.

Although, conversation skills are also very valuable for people who have moved to a Western country, like the U.S., England, or Canada, but don’t have the confidence needed to actually use their English skills in the real world.

As far as I’m aware, there’s no better way to gain confidence with a skill than by actually practicing and using it. So, conversation clubs are great for trying out the English skills you have studied, especially if you choose to do it with us, certified and native English instructors, and with other students who are on a similar path as you.

Practicing with a native speaker is also your best bet at reducing your accent – so if that’s your priority, consider looking for a language exchange partner, or joining us in our weekly classes!

What are our conversation clubs like?

Some vocabulary sheets we have given out after our clubs

If you sign up for a membership with us, you’ll have the opportunity to join our conversation clubs every day of the week (except Sunday), and practice speaking every day! Imagine how quickly you’ll progress if you speak an hour a day for a month straight – You’ll be amazed at your new talents.

Our conversation clubs are built around the needs of our students, with plenty of time built into each custom lesson for you to practice speaking. Each club will have a new lesson made by us, with a different topic of focus. We might spend Monday talking about conspiracy theories, Tuesday performing interview practice, and Wednesday discussing some big event that recently occurred, for example.

These clubs are designed to give you real world experience with native speakers and other students. You won’t find a better (or cheaper) alternative that provides you the same quality of education and quantity of practice!
